Potassium iodide CAS#7681-11-0

Essential Source of Bioavailable Iodine – Potassium iodide delivers an effective and readily absorbable form of iodine, which supports thyroid hormone synthesis and helps maintain normal metabolic functions in livestock and poultry.

Promotes Healthy Growth and Productivity – Including potassium iodide in feed helps prevent iodine deficiency-related thyroid issues, thereby enhancing growth, development, and overall productivity, particularly in young animals.

Enhances Output Quality in High-Yield Animals – It fulfills the elevated iodine requirements of high-producing dairy cows and laying hens, increasing the iodine content of milk and eggs while supporting consistent production performance.

Added Health Value of Animal Products – Iodine-enriched eggs and milk provide additional health benefits to consumers, including potential cholesterol reduction and cardiovascular support, thereby increasing the market value of these products.

Product Description of Potassium Iodide (CAS No. 7681-11-0)

Potassium iodide is an ionic compound in which iodide ions readily combine with silver ions to form a dark yellow precipitate of silver iodide. This compound is sensitive to light and can decompose upon exposure, making it valuable in the production of high-speed photographic films. Consequently, silver nitrate is frequently used to test for the presence of iodide ions.

Iodine is an essential component of thyroid hormones and plays a critical role in regulating basal metabolism in livestock and poultry, participating in nearly all physiological metabolic processes. Iodine deficiency in animals can result in thyroid enlargement and hyperplasia, reduced basal metabolic rate, and impaired growth and development. For this reason, iodine supplementation must be included in the feed of young animals and those raised in iodine-deficient areas.

High-producing animals, such as dairy cows with high milk yields and laying hens, have greater iodine requirements that must also be met through dietary supplementation. As iodine levels in the diet increase, the iodine content in milk and eggs rises accordingly. Research suggests that iodine-enriched eggs may help reduce cholesterol levels in humans and offer health benefits for individuals with high blood pressure.

Product Application of Potassium Iodide CAS#7681-11-0

Potassium iodide is approved as an iodine fortifier for use in food products. Under Chinese regulations, its permitted application levels are 0.3–0.6 mg/kg in infant foods and 30–70 mg/kg in table salt. As an essential constituent of thyroid hormones, iodine is involved in the metabolism of all substances in livestock and poultry and plays an important role in maintaining the body's heat balance. It is critical for normal growth, reproduction, and lactation in animals.

Supplementation with potassium iodide helps improve growth performance, support overall health, and boost productivity in livestock and poultry. On the other hand, iodine deficiency can lead to metabolic disturbances, physiological abnormalities, thyroid enlargement, nerve function impairment, changes in coat color, and reduced feed digestion and absorption—ultimately resulting in stunted growth and development.
