Products Description of Direct Red 23 CAS#3441-14-3
Direct Red 23 is a purple-red powder with moderate water solubility. When dissolved in water, it yields a vivid red solution. Its aqueous solution shows distinct color responses under different chemical conditions: it turns light blue upon addition of dilute sulfuric acid, forms a wine-red precipitate in concentrated hydrochloric acid, and develops a reddish orange-brown color in concentrated alkaline media.
The pigment is slightly soluble in ethanol, giving an orange solution, and is insoluble in acetone. In concentrated sulfuric acid, it appears bright red to magenta and shifts to brown-orange after dilution. Treatment with concentrated nitric acid produces an orange-yellow precipitate, and it remains insoluble in concentrated alkali solutions.
Direct Red 23 dissolves in concentrated ammonia water to give a bright red solution. In dyeing applications, the presence of copper ions deepens the shade, while iron ions have little effect on the color appearance.

Product Application of Direct Red 23 CAS#3441-14-3
Direct Red 23 is primarily employed for dyeing and printing cotton, viscose, linen, and other textile fibers. It is also applicable for coloring silk, wool, paper, and leather, as well as for the preparation of lake pigments.
This dye can be used alone to produce scarlet and madder red (yellowish red) shades, or blended with yellow, orange, red, brown, and other dyes to achieve various color tones. After dyeing, the fabric can be finished with urea formaldehyde resin or treated with Fixing Agent Y, which maintains the original color base. When treated with Fixing Agent M, the color shade shifts noticeably toward blue.
